As a new member here at Christian Life Center, I was tremendously nervous about meeting new people. Here I was, a newly single mom…unsure of just where I would fit in. I asked God to send me someone I could learn from, someone who would encourage me to embrace my walk.
Not only did God hear me…but He sent me quite possibly the one person I needed most in my life. Sister Sheyla Creel not only helped me learn, she helped me belong. Through her Bible Basics Class I learned to pray, to read my bible and appreciate the word in a way I never thought I could. The weekly classes opened my heart to receive the blessings God has always had in store for me. After several weeks of Sheyla’s class, I no longer felt adrift. More and more, I was feeling a sense of belonging.
With her "Mom’s Ministry," I encountered a tremendous wealth of comfort. Thursday December 4th marked the Mom’s Ministry Annual Christmas Party. And here, here in this ministry where women of all ages, all backgrounds, all walks and all stages of motherhood; here was a place we could all come together in fellowship and praise. A place for us to grow as women, mothers, and children of God.
Naturally, the gathering of women included (as always does) a delicious assortment of food. What better way to meet someone new than over a dish of mouthwatering treats? The evening is bustling with chatter and laughter. Introductions are made with every arrival. After some socializing we gather for games where we are constantly meeting someone new and learning that beneath every surface, we are all so similar in many ways.
We laugh. And with groups as lively as Sisters Sandy Guerrero’s, Melanie Martinez, Typhany Scott and others…we laugh hysterically.
In this group of women, there is love. There is strength and support. There is prayer and there is wisdom. There are tears, but just as quickly there is comfort.
Every 2nd Thursday there is a daytime Mom’s meeting for the ministry. Here, stay at home moms and others who are available can bring their kids, a dish of food, and a smile. Here, there is also fellowship…laughter…and ease.
It was here, at this months day time meeting that I stood back and realized I had found my place. It was here…among these amazing women I found myself at home.
Evening meetings (scheduled for the last Thursdays of every month) will start again with a kick off after January’s Landmark.
For us moms who seek a ministry we can call home, the Mom’s Ministry is a wonderful place to start. Be prepared to become one of the family.
